Euro meeting to discuss impact of F-gas regulation

BELGIUM: The leading association of European SMEs is organising a meeting at the European Parliament on the F-gas regulations and the critical impacts it is having on businesses.

Brussels-based SMEunited says it has observed a number of critical issues, including supply shortages and high prices, as a result of the F-gas regulation (517/2014). It is also aware that the illegal trade in HFCs could compromise the environmental intentions of the regulation.

SMEunited will present their observations and discuss possible further actions with the members of the European Parliament, the European Commission, and other stakeholders in a meeting on November 13.

“In particular, our aim is to focus on adverse effects on the environment and climate. Here we see room for improvement and at the same time a possibility to significantly reduce the burden for SMEs,” the association says. “Our objective of the breakfast event is to encourage a comprehensive discussion on eco and energy efficiency as well as on safety and feasibility regarding planning and construction of refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems.

Speakers will include Austrian MEP Angelika Winzig, ASERCOM president Wolfgang Zaremski, Bente Tranholm-Schwarz of the European Commission’s DG Climate Action and Juerg Hagleitner, chairman Austrian sector of air-conditioning and refrigeration technicians.

SMEunited, formally known as UEAPME, represents around 70 member organisations from over 30 European countries. It is a recognised employers’ organisation and European Social Partner and acts on behalf of crafts and SMEs in the European Social Dialogue and in discussions with the EU institutions.
