GERMANY: Customs officers from Bad Reichenhall customs office on the Austrian border recently intercepted 176 refrigerant cylinders on a semi-trailer truck carrying refrigeration equipment from Turkey.
The refrigerant cylinders, which were not disclosed in the customs declaration, were discovered alongside the cooling equipment. The type of refrigerant was not disclosed by customs but transportation of both the equipment and the gas were in breach of the European F-gas regulations.
The 1760kg of refrigerant was confiscated and the cooling equipment sent back to Turkey.
“The import of listed refrigerant gases is generally prohibited. Therefore, the person responsible could face a hefty fine or even a prison sentence of up to five years,” explained Marion Dirscherl, press spokesperson for the Rosenheim main customs office.
