Mitsubishi to phase out R32 heat pumps
13th June 2025
UK: Mitsubishi Electric is to begin phasing out its Ecodan R32 heat pumps in Europe to be replaced by its extended next-generation range of Ecodan R290 units.
Introduced in 2017, the Ecodan R32 range was first unveiled as a future-focused response to the UK’s growing demand for high-efficiency, low GWP heating, and is seen by Mitsubishi as having played an important role in advancing the market for residential heat pumps.
The Ecodan R290 was launched in October 2023. Originally available in 5kW and 6kW, 8.5kW, 10kW, and 12kW models have since been added.
Manufactured in the UK and with Quiet Mark accreditation, the Ecodan R290 is seen by Mitsubishi Electric as an environmentally responsible choice for home heating.
“Our Ecodan R32 range helped raise the bar for low-carbon heating, and we’re proud of the role it has played in supporting the UK’s decarbonisation efforts,” commented Mitsubishi Electric product marketing manager Joanna Crown. “As the market evolves, the expanded range of Ecodan R290 heat pumps is designed to meet both future performance expectations and regulatory demands, while continuing to provide the quality and reliability that homeowners and installers expect from Mitsubishi Electric.”
