Toddler killed by falling air conditioner

CANADA: A 2-year-old girl has died in Toronto after being struck by a falling air conditioning unit.

Media reports say the girl was struck by the window air conditioning unit when it fell from an eighth-floor apartment.

Toddler Crystal Mirogho was entering the high-rise building in the Scarborough district of the city with her mother and two siblings when the AC smashed directly onto her stroller. Crystal was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but died later of her injuries.

Residents are reported to have said that the building management had offered to swap existing window units for free portable air conditioners last year. Some residents are said to have accepted the offer and some did not.

Police and officials from the building’s management – Toronto Community Housing – are investigating.
