Heating and DHW control without a BMS

UK: Kooltech’s new KS1-BR41N, or K-Brain, is a self-contained control solution for managing heating and domestic hot water demands with Mitsubishi Electric CAHV-R air-source heat pumps.

Developed by Kooltech’s in-house experts, this cost-effective device removes the requirement for complex, expensive BMS integration.

The KS1-BR41N provides a dedicated, maintenance-free interface for the CAHV-R, minimising on-site complexity and installation time. According to Kooltech, it serves as the ideal control for smaller commercial applications such as care homes, schools, and small hotels, where a full BMS is costly and unnecessary.

The panel allows the user to set the DHW temperature and the flow heating temperature. A three-port valve is controlled to enable the system to enter defrost mode with flow returned to the heating buffer, even if there is a DHW demand; once defrost mode is over, the system reverts to achieving the set point.

The pre-engineered control platform ensures the CAHV-R prioritises DHW production when needed and then smoothly reverts to space heating, all without custom programming. Installation only requires simple wiring connections to the Mitsubishi Electric CAHV-R outdoor unit, a motorised valve (two- or three-port), and a remote temperature sensor in the domestic hot water cylinder.
