R444A to be sold in North America under Johnsen’s brand

USA: Orbia’s Klea Edge R444A refrigerant replacement for R1234yf in automotive air-conditioning will be marketed in North America under the Technical Chemical Company’s Johnsen’s brand as Freeze YF.

Founded in 1928, the Technical Chemical Company (TCC), a family-owned leader in manufacturing and packaging solutions has in recent years developed expertise in automotive performance chemicals and aerosol packaging.

R444A is ]offered as a cheaper direct replacement alternative for R1234yf in car AC systems. It is authorised by the US EPA for automotive professional use, requires no system modifications, and is compatible with all mobile AC systems designed for R1234yf. It blends R1234ze(E) with 12% R32 and 5% R152a and has a GWP of 92 under AR4.

Under the private-label partnership, Freeze YF will be available through TCC in 8oz canisters and 10lb cylinders.

“Our objective was to create a lower-cost, lower-impact refrigerant that cools faster without sacrificing compliance—delivering a win-win for service shops and consumers,” said Chuck Abbott, Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials global marketing manager.

“TCC’s nationwide distribution and industry relationships will ensure broad access to this alternative,” he added.
