Tefcold sells majority stake to Nordic investor

DENMARK: Commercial refrigeration company Tefcold has sold a majority stake in its business to Nordic investment company Polaris.

While Polaris becomes the majority shareholder, Tefcold founder Torben Christensen and family will own 40%, alongside a co-investing management team.

Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Viborg, Denmark, Tefcold is a leading European provider of commercial plug-in refrigeration solutions serving customers across foodservice, hospitality, retail and beverage sectors.

The company has more than 200 employees and generates annual revenues of approximately €145m. It serves more than 8,000 customers and operates in 11 countries.

The terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, but there are no changes to Tefcold’s day-to-day operations or management team, which will continue to be led by CEO Jesper Kirkeby Hansen. Torben Christensen continues in his current role in daily operations and remains on the board of directors, which is strengthened with the addition of professional board member and former industry executive Thomas Voss as chairman as well as JYSK Logistics executive vice president Ole Thomsen and Nicolai Vennekilde from Polaris as members.

“Tefcold stands out through its deep refrigeration expertise, strong customer proposition and highly scalable pan-European sales platform. We are impressed by Tefcold’s leading market positions and unique track record of quadrupling revenue and completing eight acquisitions in eight years,” commented Polaris partner Nicolai Vennekilde.

Polaris is a Nordic investment company focused on partnering with mid-sized companies across the Nordic region. With offices in Copenhagen and Stockholm, Polaris has secured more than €2bn in capital commitments from leading institutional investors across the Nordics and Europe.
